Revisiting Lawrence
Revisiting Lawrence
2005, Digital Video, Stereo Sound. 3 hours.
David Lean’s 1962 masterpiece “Lawrence of Arabia” is on the editing table. Whenever there is a ‘cut’ (and there are more than 1000 cuts in the film) it is being replaced by a “cross-dissolve”, a cinematic transition effect which gradually replaces the two shots. This transition is a common cinematic tool suggesting a passing of time or a change of location. The result is a shattered version of the classic, constantly reminding the viewer of it’s own structure.
