Like Endurance, Threshold explores Rawabi, a Palestinian city under construction in the West Bank, north of Ramallah and 9 kilometers from Jerusalem. Despite its location in a conflict zone, the city was optimistically envisioned as a peaceful community of approximately 40,000 residents. Construction of Rawabi began in 2010, but has faced multiple challenges that threaten its completion.

Similar to Endurance, Evron focused this series of photographs on the interior spaces, including a furnished model apartment. He used a still 35mm film camera to create double exposures, opening the camera shutter twice before advancing the film to the next frame. This analogue process is essentially “blind;” while Evron took care in selecting and framing his shots, he did not know what the images would look like until the film’s development and printing. His acceptance of an unknowable outcome and his focus on windows and doorways—architectural thresholds—echo the hopefulness of the city’s developers and the fragile status of the entire project.  (LR)
