Jamestown (Totems)

Jamestown (Totems)

2016, 6 Inkjet pigment prints on archival paper. 86cmX130cm

Evron shot these photographs at Jamestown, Virginia, the site of the first English settlement in the Americas, established in 1607. Today Jamestown is an educational center and “living museum” where actors reenact the lives of the European settlers and Native Americans for visitors. These images capture tightly cropped views of carved wooden totems.

With economic means, Evron’s images hint at his interest in the history of Colonialism and its affects, as well as how those events are understood and represented today.  (LR)
